Cleveland, film festival, food

be prepared

This weekend was spent at Tower City Cinemas for the opening days of the 37th annual Cleveland International Film Festival. And when I say this weekend, I mean, like, pretty much the entire weekend from Friday through Sunday, seeing 12 films in all. Seriously: before I had running or yoga for self-therapy, I had CIFF. I don’t really know how else to explain it.

Right, so, if you’re going to spend 48-72 at a movie theater and are only at home to sleep, you need to plan and be prepared. For me, that means feeling like Mary Freaking Poppins with a big ol’ totebag.

We gots my Nook (in its Vera Bradley cover) to keep me entertained between films and, of course, the Film Guide to help me decide on my next film. Having a pass means I can kind of make up my schedule as I go along, which definitely has its benefits. At this point, after two years of having a pass, I don’t think I could ever go back to tickets, let alone the dreaded Stand By line.

Food, though, is the big thing. While I did eat from the food court a few times (and Caribou Coffee and Dunkin Donuts came in handy when I wanted my non-fat latte before the early morning Short Programs), I also tried to bring my own food whenever possible.

Banana and Justin’s Chocolate Hazelnut Butter for between movies and underneath is a faux Turkey sandwich with baked Cheetos for lunch. And Swedish Fish for during movies (sorry Tower City Cinemas!).

I also had my reusable water bottle from last year’s film festival. Yesterday it was such a gorgeous day and I knew I wouldn’t be staying super late so I actually walked over. Tower City is only about a mile away from my apartment and it filled my heart with such joy to realize spring really is just around the corner.

Of course, work starts back up today but c’est la vie. My schedule has changed slightly in that I get to leave an hour early these days, so I may try and head over Thursday night to catch an evening film and I’ll probably head over early Friday morning for something. One of these days I’ll take the week off from work and spend it at the Film Festival but, really, with the pass and my three day weekend I really can’t complain!

Love from the ashes,
Lady Lazarus
