I don’t know if it was from all the iced green teas last week or what, but I’ve been on the biggest tea kick as of late. Enough that I’ve even managed to unintentionally cut back on coffee. Not that I drank that much anyway — usually just 2 cups in the morning (though on the weekends that can get up to 6, easily) — but still.
This really isn’t anything new: when I was younger I was quite a fan of hot tea. Kept several flavors of Celestial Seasonings around and when I worked at Barnes & Noble I used to collect all the empty Harney & Sons tea tins (still have two of them, actually).
But then, see, I discovered coffee and, well, you know how it goes.
Right, so, it started with a single bag of Twinings Chai tea. I honestly don’t remember where I picked it up, but I suspect it was from my yoga studio and somehow it ended up at work. I had forgotten all about it until cleaning out my desk at work. So, on a whim, I decided to try it.
And Oh. My. Ganesh.
Seriously. So good. So good, in fact, that I almost immediately ran over to the World Market across the shopping parking lot near work to buy not just one but two boxes: one for home and one for work. (Of course I most likely overpaid for the tea, but whatevs. It was the closest location I could think of at the time. I also discovered that World Market sells Popchips tortilla chips. You have no idea how happy this makes me as I can’t seem to find them anywhere).
Paired with a 100 cal mini bag of popcorn, the chai tea makes the perfect satisfying afternoon snack at work.
It also makes an excellent appetite suppresor during those times when your brain is telling you you’re hungry and you know it’s lying. Plus, as hunger pains are often thirst in disguise, tea is also a natural remedy for that.
And, of course, my new Tea canister is loving it, too. I have the most random collection of single packets of tea that I get from who knows where. Probably my mom or hotels or something. Like, as I’m writing this I’m sipping some Bigelow green tea with pomegranate and I seriously have no idea how it came into my possession. But damn is it tasty. Maybe even tastier than the Twinings chai.
I’ve started this new morning routine where I wake up an hour and half or so earlier than needed to get some writing done followed by a short run before work. When I first started I had my usual coffee, but it left me too jittery for the run and I much prefer to have my coffee with my breakfast anyway.
But tea? Tea is my new best friend at 6 in the morning. Plus, as I hand write all of my first drafts, there’s really nothing to make you feel like more of a writer than scribbling away in a notebook with the sun coming up sipping on some tea.
