Swim, Swam, Swum

Friday night, I went to a friend’s house for a pool party. I can’t really remember the last time I went swimming, probably our trip to Florida three years ago. That actually kind of makes me sad because I love the pool! When I was growing up, my friend Elizabeth had a pool and I was over there all the time. My favorite thing to do was to take one of those neon-colored diving rings and put it around my ankles and pretend I was a mermaid.

True story.

Not only was it a pool party, but it was a body positive pool party. I loved getting to meet so many local individuals who support body positivity and fat positivity all in one place. The pool party was scheduled as part of a regular gathering for the BoPo community and I’m already looking forward to more events with this group. (Also, so many fat people in bikinis, including myself. LONG LIVE THE VISIBLE BELLY.)

But it also reminded me how much I love swimming and being in the water! I’m now determined to find more pool opportunities. I know our local YMCA has a pool, but it’s indoors and being in an outdoor pool is so much better. My city has a couple outdoor pools but I’ve never been, mostly because I imagine they get jam-packed with kids and families. But I did find out from two of the women at the party that those pools host evening water aerobics a couple times a week and it’s always a really great time so I may have to start checking that out this week or next.

Also need to find more friends with pools. LOL.

  1. I need to find a water aerobics class. I took one as part of my physical-education requirement for my accounting degree and loved it on so many levels, not the least of which was finding a fairly high-intensity workout that didn’t require working around my dwarfism, my joint issues, or being an amputee (well, except the one class that was done in the deep end of the pool, but that’s another post).
