What I Love Wednesday: Bandelettes

Disclaimer: This is not a sponsored post — I just love these so much I have to share them. That said, there are affiliate links and if you make a purchase, I will get a small commission.

A couple weeks ago at my bridal shower, my cousin came over to me and said, “I want to ask you about those things you talked about in your Instastories. That you wear with skirts.”

Giving her a conspiratorial grin, I lifted the hem of my dress a few inches. “Do you mean these?”

Around my upper thigh was what, at first blush, looked like a white lace garter. In essence, it kind of is. But instead of requiring a garter belt to hold them up, these bands are lined with silicon to keep them in place around my thighs. I was wearing a pair of Bandelettes, which are anti-chafing thigh bands.

I had first been recommended Bandelettes by a friend a few years ago but at the time didn’t decide to try them out — a decision I’m deriding myself for now. It’s the struggle of all fat girls: how do you survive summer wearing skirts and dresses while also dealing with chub rub? You know, when your inner thighs rub together and friction is created. Granted, it’s not just fat girls dealing with this but I feel as if we’re the only ones talking about it on social media and offering solutions, which is how I found out about Bandelettes for the second time and this time I decided to buy a pair.

Within a week of their arrival I had already purchased a second pair.

Admittedly, this time around the situation was different because I’m getting married in about six weeks (omg) and have a big white wedding dress to wear. Finding something to wear under that dress that will a) be comfortable and b) won’t make me any hotter than I’ll already be under several pounds of lace and tulle has been of the utmost importance.

I used to wear pants all summer long. Then I graduated to leggings. All summer long. Leggings under skirts and dresses. As if I wasn’t already hot enough because of summer heat, I was now adding layers to my outfits rather than taking them away. WHAT THE HELL, JILL.

I’ve tried rubbing deodorant or anti-chafing gel used by runners on my inner thighs, which both work for awhile but often needed reapplying. Biker shorts under skirts weren’t quite as hot as leggings, but they were still an extra layer. Oh, and let’s not forget the sausage casing that was Spanx.

These things are like magic. Easy breezy magic. First day I wore them I felt naked under my dress, wondering if this is what all of you have been feeling all these years. Even now, several months in, it’s still a little disconcerting to not have anything else underneath my skirts and dresses.

I first bought a pair of the unisex in beige, but for the wedding I did go for a pair of white lace. Because why not.

Bandelettes. Buy them. Trust me. Unless you are one of the, like, 2% of women with a thigh-gap, you want to have these in your life.
