Race Recap: 2018 Christmas Story 5K

December 3, 2018December 2, 2018 Jill (Lady Lazarus)

Readers of my book and longtime readers of this blog know that the Christmas Story Run is my favorite race in Cleveland. In fact, after finishing the 5K last year, I signed up for the 2018 race as soon as registration opened a couple of days later. Race recaps for 2013, 2015, and 2017. I… Continue reading Race Recap: 2018 Christmas Story 5K

Saturday was the annual St. Malachi Church Run which, if you've been following this blog long enough and/or have read Running With a Police Escort, you know is one of my most favorite runs in all of Cleveland. This was my sixth time running it! (Recaps: 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017)Last year, local racing organization… Continue reading Race Recap: St. Malachi Church Run

Race Recap: Christmas Story 5K

December 4, 2017June 4, 2018 Jill (Lady Lazarus)

For the past few months, whenever I've done an author event for Running With a Police Escort, during the Q&A portion I inevitably am asked "Do you have any races coming up?"I've always said the Turkey Trot (which, ooops, forgot to blog about!) and mention that I'm thinking about doing the Christmas Story Run, mostly… Continue reading Race Recap: Christmas Story 5K

Race Recap: 2017 Cleveland Marathon 10K

May 22, 2017June 4, 2018 Jill (Lady Lazarus)

After expo-ing all weekend, I went to bed early Saturday night as I had an early alarm clock for race day! I was waffling all morning about what to wear and at the last second switched to a tank top and I'm so glad I did because I think it would have ended up being… Continue reading Race Recap: 2017 Cleveland Marathon 10K

Boring Self Care: To Do Lists. More than once I have briefly wondered if a lot of my daily struggles and mood related issues are really Inattentive ADHD. It often goes misdiagnosed or even undiagosed in girls because it presents differently than the hyperactive boy we think of when it comes to ADHD/ADD. Focusing is one of my biggest challenges and, admittedly, it's one of the reasons I chose the anti-depressant that I did because it's supposed to help a little bit with that. • • • (The literature on women and ADHD is fascinating and kind of depressing, too, because it's so clear that girls, specifically girls with the inattentive form, are just waved away as flighty or spacey or daydreamers and they never get the help they need. Not to self-diagnose, but so much of it makes sense and explains a lot of the challenges I had in school along with the challenges I still continue to have on a day-to-day basis.) • • Regardless of whether or not I actually have ADHD, I have found that a lot of inattentive coping mechanisms are super helpful in at least making me feel organized and "together." Specifically To Do Lists. Honestly, sometimes To Do Lists are the only thing that keep me on task because I will 100% something five minutes later unless I write it down. My #BulletJournal is part calendar, part note taking, and part to do lists. I'm pretty sure one of the reasons all previous calendar/journal systems failed was because they didn't allow me to have all of that in one place. Or I'd have my calendar plus a separate thing for notes and my to do lists would be on scraps of paper I'd just end up losing. Some weeks my memory and attention-span are better than others but this is one week where I literally have to write every single fucking thing down or I will get distracted within seconds and it flutters away.
